This exhibit was born from the inspiration of Green Day’s hit song American Idiot. Green Day was a big advocate for the anti war agenda in Iraq. They believed that “big brother” only wanted to a make a buck and would do it any way that they could. In their song “American Idiot” there are lines throughout that repeat themselves.
...I don’t wanna be an American idiot...
...Sing along to the age of paranoia...
...One nation controlled by the media...
...Can you hear the sound of Hysteria...
The album itself is very political in nature and sparked a revolution among teens to support the anti war effort throughout the nation. The other song in this album that was just as political was none other than “Holiday”.
The main focus of this exhibit is to shine a light on how the “American Dream” is for the “American Idiot”. This show is highlighting the lie that the United States government tells its youth about how fighting for your country and then coming back and living the dream life is a total lie. This exhibit also focuses on what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is and how it effects over 30% of our veterans. That in the last 13 years there are over 500,000 veterans that have been diagnosed with symptoms of PTSD.
